Not all Doom and Gloom
It is easy to become frustrated or disheartened whilst job hunting, especially during these unprecedented times. Whilst we are plunged into high unemployment, now is your chance to explore different career options and find what you’re truly interested in. Despite the difficult year COVID-19 has thrown our way, we are choosing to see 2021 as the year of comebacks and here’s why.
2020 has proved to be the toughest year yet. Whilst COVID-19 might represent hardship, suffering, challenges (and any other negative connotation you’ve come to associate with this unpredictable and unexpected global pandemic), it can also represent a moment of opportunity. COVID-19 has not only changed the way we look at business but, how we conduct business too. The current crisis we are facing has in fact given us an opportunity to rethink how to innovate, provide solutions and overcome barriers.
As business sectors navigate this “new-normal”, we’re seeing small owned businesses to corporate giants, adjust to lockdown regulations, implementations of new health and safety protocols, changes in ways of working and job cuts as they face uncertainty. For a job seeker, this seems discouraging. As though the job hunt wasn’t daunting enough, job seekers feel more discouraged than ever when they hear of their peers, friends and family members either struggling to make ends meet or losing their jobs.
Not to discredit the difficult times we’re all facing but it’s not all doom and gloom. Your outlook will influence your openness and receptiveness to new opportunities that lie ahead. Let go from your job last year? Perhaps there lies opportunity for you to reinvent yourself – get out of the rut or comfort zone you found yourself in. Find something new to challenge you and bring out the best version of yourself. Tap into new capabilities and talents you never knew you had. Venture into passions you wish you had followed. Pursue a change in career.
The opportunities truly are limitless.
