You may argue that you know yourself best, and that nobody could explain your previous experience as well as you could.
You may be right, and that’s why you’ll be your best advocate at the interview.
However, until you get to the interview, a professional resume will help you stand out of the hundreds of others in the pile, and make a hiring manager eager to meet you.
A resume of 2018 is different than what you may be used to. It has a very distinct format and specific rules it generally follows.
As a professional marketing tool – selling none other than YOU – there are certain things to include, and certain things to stay far away from. The difference could make or break your career.
When approaching a recruiter or hiring manager, be sure to have your resume handy. They WILL ask for it and to be prepared is to be professional.
Without a resume:
- You do not exist. Literally! The hiring manager has no way of knowing about you and what you have to offer.
- The recruiter cannot enter you into his/her database and make a potentially great match.
- You do not have the chance to market your skills, achievements and experience to a hiring manager prior to the interview. (Be sure to include a link to your portfolio if you’re specialty is graphics or architectural design)
- The hundreds of other applicants do have resumes – to be considered, you have to be included.
